Lan Xu (b. 1985, Luzhou, China) is a Brooklyn-based multimedia artist. Her current practice includes poetry, dance, noise performance, site-specific installation and photography. She sees art practice as shamanic traveling, woven into a cybernetic fantasy, with the intention of healing. She studied Integrated Digital Media at New York University and graduated from the low-residency MFA program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
A lighthearted manifesto 2017
My art is neither about criticizing capitalist anxiety nor about privacy. My art is not about racism, fascism, communism, or lookism. Sometimes it involves instant crush. My art does tackle post-Internet consumerism and media ADHD. My art does not end in neutrality, however, mediation will lead the action. Music is the vehicle of actions, but I’m the noise maker.
